    CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliances are relieable and inexpensively priced turn-key devices, which allow you to run your own web-, email- and ftp-server within minutes. Regardless if you want to host just your own website, multiple websites, or want to offer shared hosting for a multitude of clients. The CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliances are the much more modern cousins of the Sun Cobalt RaQs, which are still in widespread use, but are no longer manufactured.

    CentOS is an Enterprise-class Linux Distribution derived from sources freely provided to the public by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor (read that as RedHat). CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policy and aims to be 100% binary compatible. CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork. CentOS is free.

    BlueQuartz is an open source project which is based on the Sun Cobalt Sausalito architecture of the Cobalt RaQ550. BlueQuartz provides the same GUI functionality which a RaQ550 provides - minus the Chilisoft ASP support (available, but costs extra). Frontpage 2002 support is available as free PKG download and pre-installed on our servers. Sites, users, mailinglists and settings can easily be imported from an existing Sun Cobalt RaQ to a server running BlueQuartz - through the CMU utility.

    The CentOS + BlueQuartz Server Appliances we manufacture are shipped with all the software pre-installed and pre-configured. After unpacking you just need to connect the power cord and network cable, configure the network settings and instantly have a full working internet server which can easily be administrated through a browser based web-interface. Adding sites, users and email accounts and most of the mundane tasks of server administration can then be performed through the GUI.

    Fully refurbished RaQ550 running Strongbolt OS. Built on CentOS (A community version of RedHat Enterprise Linux), this RaQ server now has an up-to-date, patched, secure version of Linux!

    Bluequartz, the open source Web-based Graphical User Interface (GUI)

    The Web-based GUI allows for extreme ease-of-use.
    The BlueQuartz Server Desktop is an intuitive, easy-to-use Web-based GUI that shields the user from the complexity of the underlying Linux operating system. The BlueQuartz Server Desktop provides end users with a simple yet powerful interface to manage and modify virtual sites.

    IP Address Allocation

    The main administrator of the server appliance can specify and limit what IP addresses will be made available to the other administrators when they create or modify virtual sites.
    This feature allows Service Providers and Network administrators to fully delegate virtual site management while still making sure that IP addressing will be consistent across the network.

    User Import/Export

    The administrator can use this function to import or export a user list in TSV (Tab Separated Value) format.
    This is a great time saving feature to move users between Virtual sites or servers.

    Multiple Administrators

    The system administrator can create additional administrator accounts.
    The system admin can delegate the administration to trusted third parties.

    Active Monitor

    Active Monitor is a Sun Cobalt utility that regularly checks key system components for proper operation.
    Active Monitor automatically sends notification messages to the administrator in the event a system component has problems.

    Auto DNS (Domain Name Server)

    The automatic DNS configuration option updates the DNS records when creating or modifying virtual sites.

    Modular Software Architecture Layer

    The Strongbolt RaQ 550 server appliance is based on a modular software architecture enabling third-party developers to customize, modularize and implement services quickly.
    This architecutre, combined with a full suite of developer tools, makes the Strongbolt RaQ 550 server appliance an ideal platform for the developer community.

    This new feature dramatically simplifies the task of managing virtual sites.

    Linux 2.6 kernel

    The Strongbolt RaQ 550 server appliance is based on the current Linux kernel 2.6.
    Linux is the ideal platform for businesses looking for cost-effective and powerful edge-networking solutions. Most applications written for Red Hat Linux can run on the Strongbolt RaQ 550 server appliance.

    Tool-Free Chassis

    Tool-free chassis cover removal allows for quick access to the internal components of the server.
    This makes system service and maintenance extremely quick and easy.

    Other Features of the Server Appliance

    • Robust and very secure modern and up-datable, supported version of linux.
    • Easily up-dateable package management system (using YUM).
    • Installing latest security patches is as easy as "yum update" from command line
    • Apache 2.0! Which has dozens more features than the Cobalt's Apache 1.3

    • All sites on a RaQ or BlueQuartz are named in the fashion <hostname>.<domain>.<extension>

      Example: www.company.com

      The thing here is that all mailboxes on the server also follow this naming scheme and the correct email address for a user is:

      <username>@<hostname>.<domain>.<extension>

      Example: test@www.company.com

      Obviously one would desire that emails sent to test@company.com (omitting the hostname "www") should also work.

      To achieve this and to make sure that emails to test@www.company.com AND test@company.com both get delivered, one has to do the following:

      a) "Web Server Alias" & "Email Server Alias":

      In the GUI go to the "Site Management" of the site in question.

      Click on "Site Settings".

      There you see two input textfields labled "Web Server Alias" & "Email Server Alias". On a Sausalito powered server the "Email Server Alias" entry can be found under "Services" / "Email" for the site in question.

      If the site is named "www.company.com", then your aliases (both "Web Server Alias" & "Email Server Alias") should be "company.com".

      b) DNS:

      Next go to the GUI pages for the DNS. On a RaQ3 / RaQ4 that is "Server Management" / "Control Panel" / "Services" / and "Parameters" behind "Domain Name System (DNS) Server". On a Sausalito powered server that's "Server Management" / "Network Services" / "DNS".

      Here is the minimum of DNS records you should have on a server appliance for each site:

      company.com

      ---- A Record ---->

      <IP-Address>

      www.company.com ---- A Record ----> <IP-Address>

      <IP-Address> ---- Reverse ----> company.com

      company.com ---- MX Record ---> www.company.com (*)

      www.company.com ---- MX Record ---> www.company.com (*)

      (*) = This MUST be the exact name (including the hostname part) of the domain as shown in the GUI interface.

      Summary:

      "Web Server Alias" & "Email Server Alias" must be defined, DNS for the domain needs two MX records which point to the full host- and domain name of the site.

      This is ONE approach that works. There are others, which may work as well, but usually involve setting up extra MX and A record for something like mail.company.com. This approach here is generally more simple and straightforward.
