Solaris is complementary to Linux in the edge
computing market. Customers can select either according
to their needs.

Yes, Sun plans to introduce future Solaris 9 updates
for the Sun LX50 server. Details will be announced
in a future product intro.

- Sun Grid Engine
- Java 2 Standard Edition
- Sun ONE Active Server Pages (ASP)
- TomCat (JSP)
- MySQL (Database)

The Sun LX50 server ships with the management
agents for the Sun Cobalt Control Station and SNMP
installed.
The Sun Cobalt Control Station is a network-based
management solution for monitoring hardware and
provisioning software. For more information on the
Sun Cobalt Control Station, see: http://www.sun.com/hardware/serverappliances/controlstation/
Because the Sun LX50 server supports IPMI, DMI,
and SNMP, third-party management tools like HP Openview,
CA Unicenter, and Intel Server Manager can also
manage the Sun LX50 server.

The Sun LX50 server loaded with Sun Linux 5.0
currently supports an English-only installer and
English-only command line. However, localized applications
will run correctly on the Sun LX50 server and Sun
Linux 5.0.
The Getting Started Guide has been translated
into Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and French.
The localized Getting Started Guides are posted
to the Sun LX50 server documentation page at: http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/lx50/documentation.html
The Release Notes will be localized three weeks
after August 12th.

The Sun LX50 server supports JavaServer Pages
(JSP 1.1), Servlet 2.2 specifications, and Active
Server Pages using Sun ONE Active Server Pages (ASP)
technology (Sun Linux only).
No, there are no additional software licenses
required to use the Sun LX50 server and Sun Linux
5.0. The Solaris Intel configurations include a
Right To Use (RTU) license.
Yes, the Sun LX50 server is based on industry-standard
hardware and will run other Linux distributions.
The Sun LX50 server has three front accessible
drive bays. Two of the bays are SCSI hard drive
specific and the third supports either CD-ROM &
Floppy or a SCSI hard drive. The two supported hard
drive sizes are 36GB SCSI and 72GB SCSI.
Any combination of hard drives and the CD-ROM
& Floppy assembly is allowed.

The Sun LX50 server will support up to 6GB of
PC133 Registered ECC SDRAM using 6 DIMM sockets.
Because the system uses the high-performance dual
interleaved memory architecture, memory must be
added using pairs of the same size DIMM.
The Sun LX50 server has two internal PCI expansion
slots. One slot is a standard, full-length PCI slot
and the other is a low-profile, half-length PCI
slot. The two slots are connected to separate PCI
buses.
The Sun LX50 server uses a 250 Watt Power Factor
Correction (PFC) power supply.
Approximately 26 lb. (11.8 kgs) unpacked 2-drive
server. Approximately 40 lb. (18.2 kgs) packaged.

The Sun LX50 server fits industry-standard 19-inch
racks. The Sun LX50 server does not currently fit
into Sun's custom racks. Before the end of the year,
X-Option brackets will be available for Sun's racks.

The Intel Pro/100+ Dual Port Server Adapter (Mfg
P/N: PILA8472D3G1) and the Intel Pro/1000XT Gigabit
Server Adapter (Mfg P/N: PLWA8490XTL) are both supported
in the Sun LX50 server.
The Intel Pro/100+ Dual Port Server Adapter is
a full-height PCI card with two 10/100 NICs.
The Intel Pro/1000XT Gigabit Server Adapter is
a low-profile copper Gigabit PCI card. This card
will fit in the low-profile slot and will free up
the full-height slot on the Sun LX50 server from
heavy I/O traffic. The full-height PCI slot shares
its PCI segment with the SCSI subsystem.
